Principal Director: Mary E. Decker

After 32 years of serving families in public education as a Special Education teacher, a Certified Academic Language Therapist teaching students with dyslexia, a District Dyslexia, DMTSS, and Section 504 Coordinator, I’ve enjoyed serving families in another way. I have the background and knowledge of dyslexia and special education that is quite helpful to parents in helping to navigate the system.

Dyslexia Services of North Texas is here to:

  • provide private reading, handwriting, spelling instruction to students of all ages.

  • heighten the awareness of dyslexia in the community

  • perform intelligence and achievement assessments

  • decipher assessment data to help parents understand the child’s strengths and areas of weakness

  • assist parents to actively participate in an upcoming IEP/Section 504 meeting

  • empower parents to advocate for their child

  • train teaching professionals in the latest dyslexia research, strategies, and techniques

  • train teaching professionals to teach reading according to the science

Private Dyslexia Instruction

All people have the ability to learn to read, spell, and write proficiently. Research and evidence-based instruction begins with the very basics of the English language and builds upon that foundation as fast as possible, but as slowly as necessary, for each student’s needs.

Multisensory, explicit, systematic, phonetic instruction based on Orton-Gillingham teaching methods. Two-to-three years of remediation meeting 3-4 days a week will show great progress. Monthly pre-payment with agreed times and dates required.

60 min. Sessions $50 at my business

Dyslexia Assessment

It’s essential for struggling readers to understand the root of the problem. Many feel that they aren’t smart… which is OFTEN quite the opposite. A dyslexia assessment uses the preponderance of formal and informal evidence to draw a conclusion.

A certified educational diagnostician on staff will effectively test for a specific learning disability according to Texas state laws. This evaluation report meets all legal ramifications and is sufficient evidence for any public school’s review and acceptance. (Note that public schools may request additional information at no charge to the family.)

Reasonable fee for inclusive interview, evaluation, report , and explanation of data results.

(Fees are determined by unique assessment needs)

Special Education Advocacy

Educational acronyms, tests, data review, and systems are sometimes confusing. I can help decipher the scores, explain the systems, and share the meanings of acronyms to help parents understand the jargon.

It is my goal to empower parents to fully and confidently participate and have a voice in their child’s education.

Online or in-person, this advocacy session will help parents address and prioritize the areas of concern, prepare a plan to have that voice heard, and discuss options to best achieve student success.
